What good descriptions get right
A description is read by two audiences at once — the viewer deciding, and the system deciding who to show it to.
The first two lines do the work
Only the opening lines show above the fold and in search results. Everything after that is read by people who already decided to look.
BeforeIn this video I talk about a few things I have been working on.
AfterThe five-step editing workflow I use on every upload, on a stock laptop.
Put the topic and the promise in the first sentence, before any housekeeping.
Structure beats volume
Chapters, short blocks, and a clear order let a viewer scan the description instead of reading it.
BeforeOne paragraph carrying the topic, the links, and the ask
AfterHook, context, chapters, takeaways, one call to action
A chapter list starting at 0:00 also gives viewers a way into the middle of the video.
It should sound like the video
The description is read as a description of the video, so the words you actually say on camera belong in it.
BeforeDescription never mentions the tools or topics covered
AfterEach section named with the words used in the video itself
Name each section in your own words — a block of keywords with no sentences around it helps nobody.
