Channel Analytics Sharing: YouTube's New Brand Discovery Test
Channel analytics sharing is becoming a gateway to brand deals as YouTube tests Channel Search, giving selected advertisers access to creators' audience demographics and performance data.
Your YouTube analytics aren't just feedback anymore. They're becoming part of your shop window.
A new experiment puts creator discovery inside YouTube Studio, letting selected brands inspect channels before sending the awkward "What are your audience demographics?" email. Convenient. Also worth paying attention to.
A brand-only side door
The feature, reportedly called Channel Search, appeared under a creator discovery tab and was spotted by vidIQ1. Search for a channel and the interface can show details such as unique viewers, watch time, audience age and gender, and leading countries.
YouTube says this was a limited test involving a small number of brand channels. The creators shown had opted into analytics sharing, and the information was already available to advertisers through Google's existing creator partnership tools.
One non-brand account accidentally received access. YouTube removed it. So no, this isn't currently a secret dashboard for checking whether your competitor's "massive audience" is three blokes in Leeds.
The experiment fits YouTube's bigger plan: handle discovery, campaign inquiries, performance reporting and paid promotion without pushing brands and creators across five different platforms.
Your data is the pitch
US creator advertising spend is expected to reach $44 billion in 20262. Brands have money. Their headache is deciding who should get it.
Subscriber count alone is a fairly blunt instrument. A smaller channel with repeat viewers in the right country can be more useful than a giant channel whose audience scrolls past everything. Channel Search makes that distinction easier for buyers to see.
Your audience quality has always mattered. Now the buyer may see it before you get a chance to explain it.
There's a trade-off. Better data can make you easier to hire, but it also lets brands compare creators faster. That means less room for fluffy media kits, mystery pricing and screenshots from your one viral Tuesday.
YouTube's channel insights sharing3 is off by default. Even with it disabled, brands may still discover you using public information. Switching it on gives approved advertising tools a richer view of your channel, including aggregated audience and shopping data.
Clean up the window
Check the setting. In YouTube Studio, open Settings, Channel and Advanced settings. Decide deliberately whether sharing supports your business. Don't just click yes because a dashboard waved "more opportunities" at you.
Know your sellable audience. Write down your monthly unique viewers, returning viewers, strongest countries and useful demographic patterns. Those numbers often tell a better story than subscribers.
Fix your contact details. A perfect brand match is worthless if your business email died with your old domain.
Keep your own media kit. YouTube can introduce the buyer. It doesn't negotiate your rate, protect your usage rights or stop a brand from asking for six deliverables and "a little paid amplification" for lunch money.
