Godox SR20R Ring Light Puts Your Phone Rig in One Frame
The Godox SR20R ring light combines phone mounting, adjustable white and RGB lighting, camera controls and microphone support, with tradeoffs in weight, battery life and availability.
Your phone shoots lovely video. Your pile of clamps, lights, cables and tiny plastic adapters? Less lovely.
Godox's new SR20R tries to clean up that mess by putting the camera inside the light. Smart idea. Although at 1.4 pounds before adding a phone and microphone, "portable" may depend on how your wrists are feeling.
The frame
Announced in September, the Godox Litemons SR20R1 is an $89 rectangular ring light with space in the center for a smartphone or compact camera. The included phone holder works vertically or horizontally.
It produces 1,510 lux at half a meter, dropping to 393 lux at one meter. Translation: it's made for close talking-head shots, livestreams, beauty videos and product demos. Not lighting your dramatic warehouse documentary. Behave.
You get adjustable white light from 2800K to 6500K, full RGB color, 14 effects and CRI/TLCI ratings of 96. Three cold shoes can hold a microphone, handle or another small light. Three quarter-inch threads and built-in feet cover stand-mounted and tabletop setups.
Bluetooth buttons on the frame can operate the phone's native camera, including recording, focus and camera switching. Android also gets NFC pairing. That's more useful than another lighting app you'll forget to open.
The 4,800mAh battery is rated for roughly 90 minutes at full output. Charging takes about two hours and 20 minutes, though the light can keep running over USB-C.
The creator bit
The real sell isn't RGB. Cheap colorful lights are everywhere. It's having your phone, key light and microphone attached to one object that can move from desk to kitchen to livestream corner without rebuilding the rig.
Every adapter you remove is one less thing capable of disappearing five minutes before a paid shoot. The price is aggressive, too. Lume Cube currently lists its small bi-color Panel Mini at $69.99, while its app-controlled RGB Panel Pro sits at $179.99 on its mobile lighting page2. The SR20R lands between them while including the phone rigging.
There are catches. Ring-style light is clean but flat. Great for faces, less useful when you want depth and shadows. The frame is also 11.4 inches wide, so it won't replace a pocket LED. And US availability remains patchy: B&H still lists it as a preorder3 as of October 18.
Before buying
First, count what your current phone rig needs. If you already own a cage, microphone mount and decent light, this is probably duplication wearing an RGB jacket.
If you shoot solo, wait for proper field tests covering Bluetooth reliability, heat and battery performance. Launch specs don't miss deadlines. Gear does.
Finally, plan to use USB-C power for streams and longer tutorials. Ninety minutes at maximum brightness sounds fine until take seven, when someone starts drilling upstairs.
